Robert Anthony "Tony" Snow (born June 1, 1955 in Berea , Kentucky , † July 12, 2008 in Georgetown , Washington, DC ) was press secretary in the White House under President George W. Bush from May 2006 to September 2007 .

Snow was the third person to serve under President Bush, succeeding Scott McClellan, and submitted his resignation on August 31, 2007. His successor was his former deputy Dana Perino . Snow had announced 14 days earlier that he would be giving up the post as White House spokesman for financial reasons. However, he did not give an exact retirement date at the time.

Snow previously worked for the Fox News Channel as a newscaster and talk show director . He was also the director of The Tony Snow Show on the Fox News Radio Network. Prior to his radio show, he was a frequent guest on The Rush Limbaugh Show and commented on National Public Radio .

Early in his career, Snow worked for President George HW Bush as editor-in-chief and deputy assistant for media affairs to the president.

In 2005 he was diagnosed with colon cancer, part of his colon was removed, and after six months of treatment the doctors believed they had the cancer under control. On March 27, 2007, however, it became known that Snow had cancer again. The colon tumor had also metastasized to the liver. However, he resumed work on April 30th. Snow died on July 12, 2008 as a result of his illness.
