Tony Teixeira
Antonio Carlos Guedes "Tony" Teixeira (* 19 ?? in Portugal ) is a South African businessman and former motorsport official.
Career
Teixeira was CEO of DiamondWorks Ltd. from May 2001 to July 2006 . (renamed “ Energem Resources Inc. ” in May / June 2004 ), which mined and traded mineral resources - primarily oil and diamonds - in ten African countries and China , and was subsequently deputy until the company's bankruptcy in late 2010 / early 2011 CEO.
In January 2000 Teixeira was accused by the then Africa Representative of the British Foreign Office , Peter Hain , of having delivered diesel fuel to UNITA rebels in Angola , which would have meant a violation of UN sanctions . Teixeira vehemently denied this and stated that it could only be a matter of confusion.
A1GP
Teixeira was chairman of the A1GP series from mid-2006 until the end of 2010 . He previously acted as deputy chairman alongside Sheikh Maktum Hascher Maktum Al Maktum from 2004 and is considered to be a co-founder of the racing series. For a long time, Ferrari's commitment as an engine supplier from the 2008/2009 season was seen as his greatest achievement .
Formula 1 plans
Tony Teixeira has repeatedly expressed interest in entering Formula 1 . He initially considered buying Spyker or Toro Rosso at the end of 2007 , but according to his own statement, these plans failed because of the 2010 ban on so-called customer cars. In February 2009, another scenario became known, according to which Teixeira could set up its own F1 team with the help of Portuguese government funds. A site near the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve could serve as a basis and the team that has already designed and built the current A1GP car could be used as the car designers . In addition, Teixeira announced an interim interest in taking over the Honda Racing F1 team. At the end of January 2010, he confirmed various reports, according to which he could act as a sponsor - for example in the form of a partnership - at the new Campos Grand Prix racing team . However, these ambitions were subsequently dashed.
The declared aim of his efforts was always to give the current A1GP champions the opportunity to prove themselves in Formula 1.
