Toon Oprinsen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Antonius Adrianus Henricus "Toon" Oprinsen (born November 25, 1910 in Tilburg , † January 14, 1945 in Vught ; in some records also incorrectly called Toon Prins ) was a Dutch football player and participant in the 1934 World Cup in Italy.

Oprinsen played in the top division for NOAD Tilburg in the 1930s . In 1934 the midfielder was a member of the Dutch national team . After he was allowed to sit on the bench three times in the spring of 1934, he made his debut in Orange on May 10, 1934 . In Amsterdam he ran against France as a substitute for Wim Anderiesen . The Dutch lost 4-5. The game went “actually not bad” for Oprinsen, but he could not fully replace Anderiesen. He was also part of the squad at the World Cup in Italy, but was not used in the only game, the 3-2 defeat against Switzerland . After the World Cup, the selection committee under Karel Lotsy renounced the Tilburger, so the match against France was his only international match.
