Torben Schmidtke (born February 24, 1989 in Schwerin ) is a German swimmer and athlete of the German Paralympic national team. In 2012 Schmidtke won the silver medal at the Paralympic Games in London . He is trained by his trainer Dörte Paschke at SC Potsdam at the Brandenburg Olympic base in Potsdam .
For winning the silver medal, he received the silver laurel leaf from Federal President Gauck on November 1, 2016.
Life
Schmidtke learned the profession of IT technician in Greifswald . In the spring of 2011 he moved from Greifswald to Potsdam.
Starting class
In Paralympic swimming there is swimming in starting classes . Schmidtke is in the starting class S8 / SB6 / SM8 due to the dysmelia of his legs and the left arm (his lower legs are not fully developed, calf muscles and ankles are missing, the legs are too short, the left arm is a little shorter with only three fingers) classified.
