Torben Winther

Torben Winther (born January 16, 1949 in Holbæk ) is a Danish handball coach and former handball player . As a player he was Danish champion and cup winner, as a coach he won the bronze medal with the Danish men's national handball team at the European Championships in 2002 and 2004 .

Coaching career

Torben Winther coached the Danish men's team at Helsingør FC from 1982 to 1986 and from SAGA / FIF from 1986 to 1989. In the 1989/90 season he looked after the women of Rødovre HK. In 1990 he returned to Helsingør IF . From 1994 he headed Roar Roskilde, with whom he won the 1995 cup. From 1997 to 2000 he was under contract with the Helsinge team. At the same time he celebrated the greatest successes with the Danish junior national team. Under his leadership, they won the European Championship in 1998 and the World Championship in 1999. He was then promoted to head coach of the Danish senior team in 2000 . With the selection he reached 3rd place at the 2002 European Championships , 9th place at the 2003 World Championships , 3rd at the 2004 European Championships and 13th place at the 2005 World Championships . He then took over Nordsjælland Håndbold . After one season he became sports director at Holbæk Elitesport. From 2007 to 2010 he coached the Swedish club Ystads IF HF . From 2010 he worked for the Swiss club HC Kriens-Luzern . He has been training the TMS Ringsted U-18 team since 2013 .
