In 1971 the Stockholm Chess Federation held an anniversary tournament on the occasion of its 105th anniversary. Rilton then donated the amount of 10,000 SEK to the association , which he later increased to 25,000 SEK (around 2,860 euros today). This money was used to hold the chess tournament annually.

Rilton was childless. So his fortune flowed after his death on the one hand in the Gothenburg Museum of Art and the other in a new foundation Riltonfond . The Stockholm Chess Federation receives part of the proceeds from this foundation for organizing the Rilton Cup.
