The Tornquist Bay is a small bay on the north coast of South Georgia . It lies between Cape Constance and Antarctic Point .
Scientists from the British Discovery Investigations mapped it between 1929 and 1930. They named it Windy Cove (English for Windy Bay ) after the violent gusts of wind that occur here. As a result of measurements by the South Georgia Survey between 1951 and 1952, it turned out that the bay was already known to whale and seal hunters by its current name. It is named after the Ernesto Tornquist , a ship of the whaling company Compañía Argentina de Pesca , which wrecked on Cape Constance on October 16, 1950 and whose wreck lies on the west bank of the bay. A bay immediately southeast of Antarctic Point is now known as Windy Cove .
