The Torre (after Portuguese torre 'tower' ) is at 1993 m the highest mountain on the Portuguese mainland and after the Ponta do Pico in the Azores the second highest mountain in Portugal. The mountain, which is more of a knoll in a hilly landscape than a pronounced summit, lies in the Serra da Estrela . A paved road leads to the highest point, a roundabout is built around the summit cross. Portugal's only ski area is located on the northern slope of the hill.
