The Tortal is a side valley of the Riss valley in the Karwendel, through which the Torbach flows. Starting from the Riss valley, it initially runs in a southerly direction, but from the Niederleger of the Tortalalm makes an arc to the west in the direction of the end of the valley, above which there is the gate , the transition to the Rontal . At the head of the valley, the repellent northern slopes of the Karwendel main chain rise with the gate walls that border the Tortal to the south. The valley is bordered to the west by the foothills of the Torkopfes and to the east by the Stuhlköpfe .

Tour possibilities

The Tortalalm is uncultivated. There are no simple transitions to managed huts or accommodations. The valley is closed to public traffic. Well-known hiking, snow and ski tours lead over the gate.
