Tortula lanceola ( Pottia lanceolata .. (Hedw) Müll.Hal), German Lanzettblättriges Pott moss is a moss - kind from the family pottiaceae .

features

The moss often grows in flocks and forms low, loose lawns. The simple or slightly branched stems are up to 8 millimeters high. The upright leaves are slightly larger at the tip of the stem than the lower, ovate, lanceolate to spatula-shaped and quickly narrowed to the short tip. When dry, the leaves are twisted and twisted. The leaf margins are bent back, the rib emerges as a short or long spike tip. The lamina cells in the upper part of the leaf are smooth to slightly papillary, rounded, square to hexagonal or short rectangular, about 9 to 21 micrometers wide and have barely thickened cell walls.

The species almost always forms abundant spore capsules, these are on the 4 to 12 millimeter long, red seta clearly raised above the leaves and are oblong ovoid to almost cylindrical. The uncovered capsule is somewhat narrowed at the mouth. Peristomal teeth are well developed, protrude far beyond the mouth of the capsule, and are about 0.5 millimeters long. The conical capsule lid is crooked, often indistinct, and beaked. The kalyptra is smooth or rarely weakly papilose, the spores are finely papilose and 18 to 30 micrometers in size. Spore ripening time is in spring.

Location claims and distribution

The warmth-loving moss is a pioneer on open, basic and mostly calcareous soil in dry, warm and light-rich places. The locations are in gaps in the ground in dry grassland, in vineyards, stone quarries, on slopes or on shallow soil on top of walls, rocks and the like.

It is widespread in Europe, to the north as far as Ireland, Scotland, southern Norway, central Sweden and the Baltic States, and in the south to the Mediterranean area. In Central Europe it is mainly found in low-lying, heat-favored limestone areas. Other deposits are in Asia, North Africa and North America.
