Touguinhó is a place and a former municipality in northwestern Portugal .

history

Roof tiles found near the parish church date from Roman times, but no further evidence of a local Roman settlement is known.

The current place was probably built after the medieval Reconquista . A Romanesque bridge over the Rio Este has been preserved from this period.

In 1758 Touguinhó had been an independent municipality in the Barcelos district for a long time until it was incorporated into the Vila do Conde district in 1836 as part of the numerous administrative reforms after the Liberal Revolution in 1820 and the subsequent Miguelistenkrieg (1832-1834).

With the municipal reform in 2013 , the independent municipality Touguinhó was dissolved and merged with Touguinha to form the new municipality Touguinha e Touguinhó .

administration

Touguinhó was the seat of an independent municipality ( freguesia ) in the district ( concelho ) of Vila do Conde in the district of Porto . It had an area of 4.5 km² and 1403 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).

As part of the territorial reform on September 29, 2013 , the municipalities of Touguinhó and Touguinha were merged to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Touguinha e Touguinhó . Touguinha became the seat of this newly formed municipality, the previous municipal administration in Touguinhó meanwhile remained as a citizens' office.
