Touguinha is a place and a former municipality in northern Portugal . It is not to be confused with the neighboring municipality of Touguinhó .

history

The discovery of a burial site proves a settlement since the Bronze Age . Roof tiles found here date from Roman times, but hardly any other evidence of a local Roman settlement is known.

The current location was documented for the first time in a deed of donation from King D. Sancho II to the Archbishop of Braga from 1238.

Touguinha was a municipality in the district of Barcelos until it was incorporated into the district of Vila do Conde in 1836 as part of the numerous administrative reforms after the Liberal Revolution in 1820 and the following Miguelistenkrieg (1832-1834).

With the municipality reform in 2013 , the independent municipality Touguinha was dissolved and merged with Touguinhó to form the new municipality Touguinha e Touguinhó .

Touguinha was the seat of an independent municipality ( freguesia ) in the district ( concelho ) of Vila do Conde in the district of Porto . It had an area of ​​3.2 km² and 2,004 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).

As part of the territorial reform on September 29, 2013 , the municipalities of Touguinha and Touguinhó were merged to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Touguinha e Touguinhó . Touguinha became the seat of this newly formed community.
