Toussaint Poisson

Toussaint Poisson (* 1797 in Paris ; † September 13, 1861 ) was a French composer and music teacher .

Toussaint Poisson studied composition in the class of Henri Montan Berton at the Paris Conservatory . In 1819 he won the premier Second Grand Prix de Rome with the cantata Herminie after Jacques Fromental Halévy and Jean Massin .

From 1830 he was a double bass player in the orchestra of the Paris Opera . He wrote two music pedagogical works, both published in Paris: L'harmonie dans ses plus grands développements, ou théorie de composition musicale and De la basse sous le chant, ou l'art d'accompagner la mélodie et du contrepoint et de la fugue .
