action

13-year-old Rosa lives with her father, a hapless painter, in a small town on the coast of Jutland . She has a handicap: her left leg is too short and she moves it with a prosthesis. Rosa's teenage life is rather unspectacular between all the small and big worries and problems: She raves about her schoolmate Mads, who is with Henriette, and finds it difficult to hide her jealousy. Rosa has a very social streak: she takes care of the daily things in life for Rimkjær and Ellen from the merchant Jørgensen and brings them home. Rimkjær, an old grouchy and lonely sailor whose only friend is a hamster, longs for human affection. Ellen, a more mature lady who lives in the neighborhood, learns from Rosa how the man is doing, and Rosa soon manages to couple the two of them. And by the way, Rosa also climbs trees. So she saves a frightened kitten despite her leg handicap.

At the rehearsals and the celebration of the Lucia Festival, Rosa challenges Henriette and gets scratchy. The two of them throw themselves up more and more and when Rosa appears in elegant clothes at Christmas, she secretly hopes that she can impress Mads with it, who is singing a song on stage. Another dispute arises. Rosa throws long suppressed words at Mads head and leaves the hall. Henriette is impressed and runs after Rosa in the dark. They meet at a little house not far from the shore. Henriette begins to organize her picture using Rosa and Rosa also realizes that Henriette is not as arrogant as she always seemed to be. The two become friends and leave the promenade together on Rosa's bike to return to the festival.

Others

Accordingly, director Stellan Olsson casted girls with a leg disability for the lead role and finally found his protagonist in Christina Brix Christensen.
