Train Man - Densha Otoko ( Japanese 電車 男 ネ ッ ト 発 、 各 駅 停車 の ラ ブ ・ ス ト ー リ ー , Densha Otoko - Net Hatsu, Kakuei Teisha no Love Story ) is a manga series by Hidenori Hara . It is based on the Densha Otoko story, which was first published as a novel by an author with the pseudonym Hitori Nakano, and then distributed in other media. There are four manga adaptations of the story. This implementation is aimed primarily at an adult, male readership, so it can be assigned to the genre of his own.

action

The 22-year-old Tsuyoshi is a typical otaku who prefers to spend his time in front of the PC and has not yet had a girlfriend. One afternoon when he was riding the subway home from Akihabara , a drunk man molested three women. Although he is afraid, Tsuyoshi confronts the drunk and thereby earns the respect of the other passengers, among them a young woman, who finally sends him two teacups as a thank you. These turn out to be very expensive "Hermes" mugs and he gets in touch with her, encouraged by comments in the 2chan Internet forum . Hermes will soon be his nickname for her, she calls him "Train Man", which is also his pseudonym in the forum.

Tsuyoshi has fallen in love with the woman, but is shy and hardly dares to contact her. In the forum he receives advice from various Internet users on how to proceed. So he can keep in touch and eventually has a date with Hermes. Over time and with support from the forum, the two get to know each other better and find a common hobby in frequent restaurant visits. Tsuyoshi, who talks about every new development in the forum, follows the tips from the others there and gradually changes his way of life. At the same time, more and more people are coming to follow the story in the forum and cheer for it. After a while, the two confess their love for each other and become a couple.

Emergence

The story of the original was shortened in this adaptation. According to Hidenori Hara, the shortening was critical to the manga's success. In addition, he put the focus of the story more on the love story and left out the sometimes negative mood of the original. When designing Hermes , Hara was based on the celebrities named in the book ( Tamaki Ogawa and Miki Nakatani ), with whom she is compared there.

Publications

The manga series was published in Japan in 2005 in individual chapters in the monthly manga magazine Young Sunday . The Shogakukan Publishing House then brought out these individual chapters in three anthologies. The three volumes sold over 1.2 million times in Japan.

The manga has been translated into English, French, Spanish and German. In Germany, the manga was published by Carlsen Comics from June to December 2007 .
