Transcend Information, Inc. ( Chinese 創見 資訊 , Pinyin Chuàngjiàn Zīxùn ) is a Taiwanese company with headquarters in Taipei that manufactures and sells memory modules and products.
The company was founded in 1988 by Peter Shu ( 束 崇 萬 , Shù Chóngwàn ). At the beginning, Transcend only had two products on the market with the JetMate driver for laser printers and the KeyPro encryption software. Shortly thereafter, the range was expanded to include memory expansions, initially for printers and later also for computers. The main memory product line now includes more than 2,500 memory modules for a variety of devices such as desktop PCs and notebooks, servers, workstations, fax machines, etc. All memory products are available both as special memory for branded hardware and as memory for non- proprietary devices from private labels. The company also offers memory modules from the low-cost series JetRam as well as modules designed for overclocking , aXeRam.
Transcend has also been manufacturing flash memory products since 2000 . In addition to memory cards in Secure Digital , SDHC, SDXC, miniSD, miniSDHC, microSD, microSDHC, CompactFlash and Multimedia Card formats , the manufacturer's portfolio also includes USB sticks (JetFlash), external hard drives (StoreJet), MP3 players (formerly T.sonic ) and various accessory products. Flash memory products are also offered for industrial use. In 2007/2008 digital picture frames (formerly T.photo) and solid state drives (SSDs) were added. In early 2009, Transcend was one of the first manufacturers to bring an external SSD onto the market. Since 2010, Transcend has also had USB 3.0 hard drives and HD media players in its range.
Transcend Information Inc. founded several subsidiaries worldwide and now has 13 offices a. a. in the USA (1990), Germany (1992), the Netherlands (1996), Japan (1997), Hong Kong (2000), the People's Republic of China (2001), Great Britain (2005) and South Korea (2008). The branch of the German Transcend Information Trading GmbH is located in Hamburg . In May 2001, Transcend became Taiwan's first publicly traded memory manufacturer (TSEC 2451).
Since 1997, Transcend has been an ISO 9001 certified high-tech company that not only designs, develops and manufactures its products, but also markets it itself and sells it in its own Transcend shops in Asia. Transcend has been active in the e-commerce sector in Taiwan since 2000. In 2008, Transcend was ranked 62nd in the InfoTech 100 and 7th in the semiconductor industry by Business Week Magazine . In addition, in a study by the market research institute Interbrand, the company came in 13th of the 20 most valuable brands in Taiwan in 2008 with an estimated brand value of 244 million US dollars. The German Transcend branch has been a member of Bitkom since 2008 .
