Transducer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Transducer is the generic term for assemblies or components for converting one form of energy into another form of energy. In this sense it is identical to the generic term converter or energy converter in German-speaking countries. ( Note: The term transducer is also used in the field of computer science for finite automata , e.g. for finite state transducers .)

In the English language, " transducers " are assemblies or components in electrical or electronic devices that convert one form of energy into another. In the example shown, the interaction of several “ transducers ” is shown. A microphone converts the sound pressure into an electrical signal, which is converted into electromagnetic waves by a transmitter. The antenna of a receiver then converts the electromagnetic wave into an electrical signal, which is then converted back into sound via a loudspeaker.

Note: In the German-speaking area, a distinction is made between the following generic terms:

  • Converter (convert forms of energy)
  • Implementer (implement information)
  • Converter (change parameters of electrical energy)
  • Converter (are to be equated with "converter" in the field of electrical engineering)

The terms inverter or converter are predominantly used in English for these terms . As in the German-speaking area, however, colloquially the terms have grown historically in the English-speaking area, so that the respective assignment cannot always be read from the name of a specific device or component.

Below are some examples of devices or components that are specified as converters or inverters in English and their German name:
