The Transrapid 04 is an electromagnetically levitating test vehicle based on the short stator principle. It was built in January 1974 as the successor to the Transrapid 02 to test higher speeds and the two-beam roadway. In contrast to its predecessor TR02 , the track had two aluminum reaction rails that were attached to the side. This enabled the reaction boost to be doubled and a flatter design to be achieved. The old track design of the TR02 (inverted T-shape) only had a single reaction rail in the middle. It was used on a now dismantled magnetic levitation train test route in Munich-Allach , which was 2,400 m long and ran in a slight S-shape from the factory premises of Krauss-Maffei to Munich-Ludwigsfeld train station . The Transrapid 04 is the last vehicle in the Transrapid series with a short stator design. Its successor was the Transrapid 05 . Today the Transrapid 04 is on display in the Technik Museum Speyer .

Trivia

The vehicle was seen in action in the Derrick episode Das Kuckucksei .
