accident
On September 22nd, 2006 the Lathen Transrapid accident occurred with 23 dead and 10 injured. At a speed of 162 km / h, the Transrapid 08 collided with a workshop vehicle manned by two workers. The workshop trolley and the front part of the maglev train were completely destroyed by the impact.
SMT
In Shanghai there is a modified version with the model designation SMT, which is optimized for use in local transport. Outwardly, this five-section vehicle hardly differs from the TR08. A window is missing on each side of a section because of the air outlets of the more powerful air conditioning systems . The underbody was therefore modified, the steel runners replaced by CFRP runners and the vehicle electronics were adapted to the requirements in Shanghai. Internally, the vehicle differs through different seating, the division of the interior into two parts, the lack of glass doors and the omission of the toilets.
