The Transrapid 05 is a magnetic levitation train vehicle built by Krauss-Maffei , Messerschmitt-Bölkow-Blohm and Thyssen Henschel (“Magnetbahn Transrapid” consortium) from 1979. It is the successor to the Transrapid 04 .

history

The Transrapid 05 was built in 1979 and used in the same year at the International Transport Exhibition in Hamburg (June 8th to July 1st 1979) on a 908 m long elevated roadway to test the acceptance of the Transrapid by the population. It commuted every day for twelve hours every ten minutes and carried a total of 55,000 people during the entire duration of the trade fair.

After the exhibition, the test track, including the stations, was dismantled and - shortened to 580 meters - rebuilt on the Thyssen Henschel site (today ThyssenKrupp Transrapid GmbH). In order to make room for a new transfer platform, the route was shortened again in 2005 and the vehicle was parked around 50 meters from the station. At the same time, the vehicle body was repainted and the window seals covered with UV-repellent film. After that, the dark green decorative stripe below the driver's window was no longer visible.

In October 2010 the train was dismantled from the remains of the line and restored inside and out. Since November it has been in the Technik-Museum Kassel , the former Henschel -Werk Kassel-Rothenditmold, on a 30 m long section in the main hall of the museum.

technology

The vehicle is two-part, a total of 26 m long and has 68 seats. It is the first Transrapid system with a long stator drive; here the drive coils of the linear motor are installed in the roadway and not in the vehicle. Power was supplied via a busbar on the side, as the long stator could not generate enough electricity at the operating speed at the time. The track width is smaller compared to its successor Transrapid 06 and future Transrapid vehicles, so that it was incompatible with the Transrapid test facility Emsland (TVE).

The design of the train was developed by a team led by Alexander Neumeister .
