The Transrapid 06 ( TR06 for short ) is a two-part magnetic levitation vehicle and was built for the Transrapid test facility in Emsland (TVE), which went into operation in June 1983. On March 13, 1983, the TR06 was presented to the public at the Krauss-Maffei plant in Munich . It is the successor to the Transrapid 05 .

The vehicle weighed 120 tons and was 54 meters long.

history

The ceremonial rollout of the vehicle in the summer of 1983 failed due to a cable fire. On June 30, 1983, the magnetic levitation train ran for the first time (remotely controlled) on the partially completed test facility. At the end of October 1983 the Transrapid 06 officially floated on the layout for the first time. Before that, an 18.5 m long special vehicle - a transport vehicle for people, equipment and material - with 16 tires had rolled over the road. This vehicle, which can travel up to 50 km / h, was also used to clear snow up to 55 cm high.

On May 4, 1984, the Transrapid 06 broke the 200 km / h mark for the first time at 205 km / h. On August 16, 1984 the TR 06 reached 257 km / h, on October 17 of the same year the vehicle set a new world record for passenger-manned electromagnetic levitation vehicles with 302 km / h.

At the beginning of December 1987 the Transrapid 06 floated over the south loop of the test facility for the first time. On the second day of operation (December 11, 1987) of the completed system, the maglev train set a new world record for magnetic levitation vehicles with personnel at 406 km / h. A little later, on January 22, 1988, the TR 06 reached a speed of 412.6 km / h. In 1988 application-oriented continuous operation was started.

When the successor to the TR 06, the Transrapid 07 , was put into operation in 1988, from then on it only took over the test drives on the TVE.

Whereabouts

Section 1 of the TR 06 next to the Deutsches Museum Bonn
Section with graffiti near Drachten

The front section 1 of the TR 06 has been on raised stands at the Deutsches Museum Bonn since 1995 .

The other section 2 had been stored in a siding of the TVE until 1999. On the night of December 28, 1999, the Dutch had “borrowed” them from Lathen for a New Year's Eve joke. The "carrying away" of objects over the turn of the year has a long tradition in the Netherlands. While mostly only smaller things are hidden and presented on New Year's Day, the “Frysteat Folgeren” association has set itself a somewhat bigger goal. The Transrapid was transported to Drachten by heavy transport and presented to the public on New Year's Day. Since then, the section has been in Drachten, one of the small towns that the Dutch Transrapid project Amsterdam-Groningen will cross with the Transrapid. Because of the heavy weathering and vandalism, it was decided to dismantle this section. Ultimately, this was transported back to Lathen at the beginning of 2008, where it is stored in a hall - next to the E2 and M sections of the crashed TR08.
