First Hungarian-Galician Railway
The First Hungarian-Galician Railway (EUGE), in Hungarian Első Magyar-Gácsországi Vasút (EMG), was a private railway company in Austria and Hungary .
history
The concession for the Hungarian part was granted on July 14, 1869, that for the Austrian part on September 11, 1869. The sections were opened from December 25, 1871 to May 30, 1874.
The greatest structural challenge faced by the EUGE was the large Łupków Tunnel through the Carpathian Mountains , during the construction of which the EUGE got into such financial difficulties that both Austria and Hungary intervened to provide support.
From January 1, 1889, operations on the EUGE were run by the Austrian ( kkStB ) and Hungarian ( MÁV ) state railways. After that, the EUGE's route was divided into an Austrian from Przemyśl to the Hungarian-Galician border and a Hungarian to Mihályi (now Slovak Michaany ). On April 1, 1905, the Austrian section of the route was nationalized.
