Trappist monastery of Kasanza

The Trappist monastery Kasanza (Latin: Monasterium Beatae Mariae de Emmanuel ; French: Monastère Notre-Dame de l'Emmanuel ) has been a Congolese monastery of the Trappists in Kasanza near Kole, west of Lodja , diocese of Kikwit , since 1958 .

history

The Belgian Trappist Achel founded in 1958 at 130 kilometers from Kikwit remote Kasanza that of the in the then Belgian Congo living Jesuits and hermits Henri Paul (1902-1952) awaited monastery. From 1964 to 1966 the community had to flee and stayed in Léopoldville (today: Kinshasa ) and Kikombo. She returned and restored the badly damaged and looted monastery, which was raised to a priory in 1984 , taking the name Notre-Dame de l'Emmanuel ("Maria Emanuel ") (Henri Pauls called himself "Priest of Emanuel"). The prior Edouard Mununu Kasiala , who emerged from the monastery, became Bishop of Kikwit in 1986.
