Trappist Abbey of Humocaro

The Trappistinnenabtei Humocaro , official name Monasterio Nuestra Señora de Coromoto is, since 1985, a monastery of Trappist nuns in El Tocuyo , in the state of Lara , Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Barquisimeto in Venezuela .

history

Sisters of the Italian Trappist Abbey of Vitorchiano moved out in 1978 to found a monastery in Venezuela. It was not until 1985 before the mother monastery officially took over the founding. The monastery was called Monasterio Trapense Nuestra Señora de Coromoto (after the pilgrimage site in the region of Our Lady of Coromoto ). The founding bishop was Tulio Manuel Chirivella Varela . The monastery became a priory in 1991 and an abbey in 1997 . It is about 250 km from the Trappist monastery Los Andes .
