Trauma Center ( Japanese カドゥケウス , Kadukeusu , Eng . " Caduceus ") is a video game series by the Japanese game developer Atlus .

In simulated operations, the player usually has to treat various accidental injuries or remove tumors under time pressure. These operations are performed using the stylus (Nintendo DS) or the Wii wireless motion control (Nintendo Wii). For example, you can cut with a scalpel , remove splinters with tweezers, apply syringes or sew wounds .

A peculiarity in these simulations is the supernatural ability of the main character, called the "healing hand". This ability enables him to slow down time and thereby master even the most complicated operations.

In Trauma Center: Under the Knife ( 超執刀カドゥケウス , Chōshittō: Kadukeusu , Eng . "Surgical super operation: Caduceus") the terrorist organization Delphi released the deadly GUILT virus in 2018. The player has to fight the tumors caused by this virus in increasingly challenging operations. The main actor is the young surgeon Dr. Derek Stiles, assisted by assistant doctor Angela "Angie" Thompson. You work for the fictional organization Caduceus . Is Dr. Stiles still a bit awkward at the beginning, but as the game progresses he discovers his supernatural ability of the "healing hand".

Trauma Center: Second Opinion ( カドゥケウス Z 2 つの超執刀 , Kadukeusu Z: Futatsu no Chōshittō , dt. "Caduceus Z: 2 surgical super operations") is a revised port of Trauma Center: Under the Knife for Nintendo's Wii console. It has improved graphics, an expanded story and more equipment compared to the Nintendo DS game. With Dr. Nozomi Weaver, who also has the gift of the "healing hand", is introduced to a new character. Up to Mission 5, the course of the game is the same as that of the DS version, after that the story branches and Dr. Weaver's missions will be unlocked.

The story of Trauma Center: New Blood ( カドゥケウスニューブラッド , Kadukeuse: Nyū Buraddo , Eng . "Caduceus: New Blood") is 7 years after that of Under the Knife 2 . You play as Dr. Markus Vaughn, who is supported by the young doctor Valerie Blaylock. Like Dr. Stiles the supernatural ability of the "healing hand".

A virus called stigma was accidentally discovered during research by Professor Wilkens and Dr. Create Vaughn. Since Professor Wilkens wants to profit from this research, they part ways. The virus gets into the hands of the criminal organization "Kidman Family".

Since this part was developed as a separate part for the Wii console, there are some new features. The 16: 9 format and progressive scan are supported. Furthermore, the conversations during the operation are not available in text form, but rather through voice output. The player can perform the operations either alone or in cooperative mode together with a second player. The rankings can be published using the online function.

In the follow-up Trauma Center: Under the Knife 2 ( 救急救命カドゥケウス 2 , Kyūkyū Kyūmei: Kadukeusu 2 , Eng . " Emergency Rescue Service : Caduceus 2") the doctor simulation, which takes place 3 years after the first part, is the doctor Derek Stiles together working with his assistant Angie Thompson on behalf of the Caduceus organization in Africa. What Dr. Stiles begins as a simple temporary job and soon takes on much more complex forms. The disease caused by the GUILT virus but considered defeated breaks out again and has to be fought once more.

In 2010 a successor to the surgery simulation will appear again. 6 doctors, Maria Torres, Gabriel Cunningham, Naomi Kimishima (known from Trauma Center: Second Opinion), CR-SO1, Tomoe Tachibana and Hank Freebird, with different specialties operate and examine patients.
