Travis Walker (born June 22, 1979 in Tallahassee , USA ) is an American heavyweight boxer .

Amateur career

Walker won the famous American Golden Gloves tournament in 2003 , but was always overshadowed by his compatriot Jason Estrada in the super heavyweight division , who beat him three times and prevented him from participating in the Olympics. His match record as an amateur was 26-8.

Professional career

In 2004, Walker switched to the pros. It was initially built up very carefully and received rather muted reviews for its struggles in the US press.

The first fight with a well-known opponent took place in November 2006 against his old arch rival Estrada, whom he surprisingly beat on points. In April 2007, he defeated George Garcia, another and until then as a professional undefeated former amateur star, to whom he was inferior in his amateur days, also just on points.

Walker suffered his first defeat on October 19, 2007 by technical knockout after just 15 seconds of the first round against TJ Wilson. Wilson pushed him into a corner and landed several heavy hits, which caused the referee to quit quickly, although Walker did not go down. He won the rematch four months later by a technical knockout in round two.

On November 29, 2008, he boxed against the undefeated Chris Arreola . Although he scored a knockdown in the second round, he did not pursue and instead went down twice himself. After a third knockdown by Arreola, the fight was canceled at the beginning of the third round.

In 2009, Walker won early against three build-up opponents before he suffered his third knockout loss against Manuel Quezada in July 2009. On March 20, 2010, he boxed in the framework of the fight Wladimir Klitschko against Eddie Chambers in Düsseldorf against Johnathon Banks and was knocked out in the sixth round.

Walker then boxed other well-known opponents in November 2010 with ex-world champion Ruslan Chagayev and in October 2011 with Kubrat Pulew , to which he was defeated on points.

Walker played his last fight on July 11, 2015 against Alexander Ustinov, he lost to a technical knockout in round 2.
