Jason Moses Estrada (born November 30, 1980 in Providence , Rhode Island , USA ), also called "Big Six", is an American heavyweight boxer. His parents are from the Dominican Republic .

amateur

Estrada dominated the highest weight class of amateurs, the super heavyweight, in the USA from 2001 to 2003 and won the US super heavyweight championship three times in a row during this period. At the 2001 World Cup he lost to Pedro Carrión .

In 2003 he achieved his greatest success as an amateur boxer when he was able to win the Pan American Games in Santo Domingo in the top weight class, he prevailed in the final on points against the Cuban Michel López . His less than complete amateur record is 261-14, but he claims to have boxed before the results were recorded.

In preparation for the 2004 Olympic Games, however, he injured his foot, went into the tournament quite untrained and clearly overweight. After beating Ma'afu Hawke from Tonga , he lost in the quarterfinals to his ex-opponent López Nuñez.

professional

Following the Olympic Games, Estrada became a professional in 2004, initially showing dominant boxing against opponents who were building up, but despite his considerable body weight for his size, little punching power.

In 2006 he entered his sixth fight against the well-known Cuban Yanqui Diaz , who had defeated Juan Carlos Gómez by knockout. The fight was stopped after an unfortunate clash of the heads in the first round and not counted.

In November 2006, he then suffered a defeat in an eight-round fight against Travis Walker, who was also unbeaten at the time . Again he was heavily overweight in the ring with more than 116 kg and lost the fight on points. He then succeeded in a series of eight wins in a row by 2009, where he beat Charles Shufford and Lance Whitaker , among others , until he was defeated on April 4, 2009 in Düsseldorf by the Russian Alexander Powetkin over ten laps on points.

In his next fight he succeeded in September 2009 against 39-year-old veteran Zuri Lawrence with a technical knockout success in the seventh round, one of his rare early victories. On February 6, 2010 Estrada then went to Poland Tomasz Adamek and lost to the former world champion in light heavy and cruiserweight over twelve rounds on points.
