The Trem Mountain ( Serbian - Cyrillic Трем , 1810  m. I. J. ) is the highest point of the Suva Planina Mountains in southeastern Serbia . It is located around 25 km southeast of the city of Niš . Particularly impressive is the very steep northeast side of the mountain, which rises more than 1000 meters above the village of Kosmovac . This is very rocky in the upper area, further down it is densely forested. The southwest side, on the other hand, is very gentle and hardly forested. The trem is mainly made of limestone .

The neighboring peak in the northwest is the Sokolov Kamen ( 1523  m ), this is separated from the Trem by the pass called Devojački Grob ( 1311  m ). In the further course of the ridge in the southeast is the Pasarelo ( 1521  m ).

The view from the top encompasses many of the Serbian mountains, including Ozren , Rtanj , Devica and Svrljiske Planine in the north, the Balkan Mountains (Stara Planina) in the east, Cemernik in the south and Radan and Jastrebac in the west .

Climbs

Summit of the Trem mountain run in February 2005

The classic route starts at Bojanine Vode northwest of the summit at an altitude of about 800 meters. After about half an hour you reach the dense beech forest from there , in about two hours you can reach the Devojački Grob pass . There the route continues in a south-easterly direction over grass slopes. The path leads close to the north-eastern edge of the abyss and offers the opportunity to look deep into the valley. From the pass to the summit you need another 1½ hours. An alternative, somewhat equally long ascent is available from the south side, from Donji Dušnik . Here, too, the path leads over the Devojački Grob pass .

In the last week of February, a group of mountaineers from the city of Niš ( Planinarski Klub “Železničar” Niš ) has held an annual winter mountain run since 1997 ( Zimski uspon na Trem ). The distance is 12.5 kilometers, there are a little more than 1400 meters of altitude to master. Mountaineers from all over Serbia take part, and some from abroad. The number of participants is quite high: in 2008 there were over 1000 participants, in 2009, due to the bad weather, there were a little over 250, significantly fewer, of which only 150 made it to the finish.
