The Heideweiher Trennmoor is a Schlatt-like small body of water in the municipality of Visbek . Characteristic of the separation moor is the island in its center, overgrown with willows and other moisture-loving trees, as well as reeds. The northern part of the separation moor - including the island - is located in the area of the locality Visbek, while the southern part belongs to the Visbek farming community, Astrup .

The separation moor was created as a wind blowout depression in the periglacial area of the last Ice Age , when no plants could grow and the soil was exposed to the forces of weathering, shifting and relocation.

Both inflow and outflow take place via the Lutter Mühlenbach , which has its source only a few hundred meters north-northeast of the separating moor, directly on the Weser-Ems watershed . The area of this brook is used by the Vechta waterworks for water production, so its upper course in particular is mostly dry.

The origin of the name can be traced back to the two words "Trenn" and "Moor". "Separation" refers to the round shape of the pond (separates / separates = round). “Moor”, on the other hand, can be traced back to the fact that a farmer who had his farmstead in the immediate vicinity of the pond mined peat around 1880 - albeit in small quantities - on the bank . The use was probably limited to the extraction of peat only in individual cases. Today the separation moor is used exclusively for local recreation and fishing.

The separation moor is home to many of the local fish species typical of inland waters, such as the eel , pike and carp . It is also an ideal habitat for many bird species, such as the heron . The rare flowering rush was once at home on the Trennmoor . Even today, many rare plant species can be found, especially in the wide silting zone of the pond.

Despite increasing eutrophication due to the surrounding areas used for intensive agriculture and a nearby farm with factory farming, the high biodiversity indicates good water quality.

The Trennmoor is particularly protected as a natural monument.
