Trevor Wright (athlete)

Trevor Wright (born September 23, 1946 ) is a former English athlete who was runner-up in the 1971 European Marathon Championships . Wright started for New Zealand in the 1980s.

Trevor Wright started as a junior in the English cross-country team. In 1970 he won the English cross-country championships. At the European Championships in Helsinki in 1971 Wright competed in the marathon. He belonged to the top group throughout the race and in the end won silver in 2: 13: 59.6 hours, 50 seconds behind Belgian Karel Lismont . In the years that followed, he repeatedly achieved top placements in important marathons, such as third place in the New York City Marathon in 1978 and third place in the London Marathon in 1981 , in which he took part with his wife Rosemary . In the English national jersey, Wright competed at the World Cross Country Championships in 1975 when he won the silver medal in the team standings. At the Commonwealth Games in 1978 he finished ninth in the marathon in 2: 20: 14.6 hours. Trevor Wright took New Zealand citizenship in the early 1980s and became the New Zealand marathon champion in 1982. On April 17, 1983 Wright ran as ninth of the London Marathon 2:12:29 hours, which he undercut his previous personal best of 1978 by three seconds. At the first World Athletics Championships in Helsinki in 1983 Wright finished 31st in 2: 17.31 hours.

With a height of 1.70 m, his competition weight was 56 kg.
