Trezze or Tresse , formerly Batteria Trezze , is a small island in the Venice lagoon west of the city's historic center. The island has an area of 5,226 m².
history
Trezze was one of the islands on which the defense system of Venice was based. The island was expanded next to Fisolo , Campana , Ex Poveglia in the south of the lagoon, and Campalto , Tessera , Carbonera , Buel del Lovo (Batteria San Marco) in the middle lagoon. These were mostly built at the crossing points of the lagunar canals in order to block the passage if necessary. In the penultimate year of the Republic of Venice 1796 , the responsible Provveditore alla Lagune ed ai Lidi , Zuannezuto, mentioned the fortifications, which were still wooden at that time .
In 1883 all bastions were equipped with ammunition stores and casemates , the bank fortifications were reinforced.
In 1975 VeneziaGas, now Italgas SpA, was granted the concession to mine methane .
