Tri-Cities (British Columbia)

The Tri-Cities in the middle of the Metro Vancouver Regional District (GVRD).

The Tri-Cities  is the informal name of three neighboring suburbs and two villages in the northeast of the metropolis of Vancouver in British Columbia . In 2016 these five municipalities had 234,300 inhabitants, who were divided as follows:

Alternative name designation

In terms of the school landscape, the residents of the Tri-Cities commonly refer to their residential area as "District 43" after the public school district that serves this area.

The Tri-Cities Region has access to a wide variety of Lower Mainland media . Several local newspapers offer local coverage, including Coquitlam Now and Tri-City News .

CKPM-FM in Port Moody was the first radio station dedicated to the Tri-Cities area in 2011.

Streets

For motorists, the Trans-Canada Highway  provides access to Burnaby , Vancouver , Surrey and other communities in the Lower Mainland. The Lougheed Highway is an alternative route to the Trans-Canada Highway. It begins in Coquitlam  and passes through Maillardville, crosses the Riverview Hospital area , and continues to Coquitlam Center , where the road turns sharply east to Port Coquitlam and then over the Pitt River Bridge to Pitt Meadows. The Barnet Highway begins at Coquitlam Center and runs directly west through Port Moody and on to Burnaby and downtown Vancouver.

Public transport

The bus routes in the Tri-Cities are operated by the TransLink  company. The West Coast Express , which runs from Downtown Vancouver to Mission , stops at Port Coquitlam Station, Coquitlam Central Station, and Port Moody Station.

The Millennium Line has served the area since the Evergreen Line was completed  on December 2, 2016. The line serves the Lougheed Town Center in Burnaby and runs through the southwestern part of Coquitlam in Port Moody and the center of Coquitlam, where it meets at Lafarge Lake- Douglas Station ends.
