Belcarra is a small community in the western part of the Canadian province of British Columbia and is located in the northeast part of the Greater Vancouver Regional District .

geography

Belcarra is located about 30 kilometers northeast of Vancouver and is surrounded by the communities of Anmore , Port Moody and North Vancouver (district) . Belcarra lies on the Indian arm .

history

The granting of local self-government (incorporated) took place on August 22, 1979. The history of the settlement, however, goes back further. Before Europeans settled here, the area was already a settlement and hunting area for the First Nation .

Demographics

The 2016 census showed a population of 643 inhabitants for the settlement, after the 2011 census still showed a population of 644 inhabitants for the municipality. The population remained almost unchanged compared to the last census in 2011 and developed weaker than the provincial average, with a population increase of 5.6%. In the 2006 to 2011 census period, the number of inhabitants in the municipality had already decreased by 4.7%, while the provincial average increased by 7.0%.

At the 2016 census, the average age of the residents was 47.6 years, well above the provincial average of 42.3 years. The median age of the residents was determined to be 52.8 years. The median age of all residents in the province in 2016 was 43.0 years. For the 2011 census, a median age of 52.1 years was determined for the residents of the municipality and 41.9 years for the residents of the province.

economy

In Belcarra, the main areas of employment are education, research and development, and health and social affairs. In many cases, however, the employers are not in the community; instead, the employees commute to work in Vancouver.

The average income of all employees from Belcarra in 2005 was at 47,075  C $ , while it was only about the same time the average for the entire province of British Columbia with 24,867 C $ half. The percentage difference in income between men (53,365 C $; provincial average = 31,598 C $) and women (45,168 C $; provincial average = 19,997 C $) in Belcarra, based on the average income of all employees in the province, is lower than in the comparison for the entire province. Both groups earn well above the provincial average, but the percentage difference based on the provincial comparison is even greater for men (~ 2.14 times the provincial average) than for women (~ 1.81 times the provincial average). Male employees not only earn more here compared to the provincial average of all employees, but also earn significantly above average compared to all male employees in the province. The income of female employees is also well above average in both comparisons. In the case of female employees, the percentage difference in income compared to all female employees in the province is even greater than this comparison is found for men.
