Tribute is a song of the American rock band Tenacious D .

background

Tribute was released in 2001 on the Tenacious D album. In 2002 it was the most requested music video on Kerrang! TV , although the title hadn't been released as a single. Thematically, according to Tenacious D, the song is an homage to the best song in the world that they wrote, but which they have forgotten. In the movie Kings of Rock - Tenacious D they face the devil in a so-called rock-off. This song ( We are the D ) is honored as the “best song in the world” at the end of the film and thus refers to tribute . The film thus answers the question about the incident on which Tribute is based. At the end of the film, when the protagonists try to record the song on tape, they say they have forgotten.

Over time, the song has changed several times, but the original version points to the song Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin as "the best song in the world" because the melody and guitar passages are in parts similar. In addition, Jack Black has said several times that, in his opinion, Led Zeppelin is the best band in the world.

Video

At the end of the video for Tribute , Ben Stiller and Liam Lynch , the director of the video, walk through the picture in front of the recording studio.

Others

In 2010 fans tried to bring the song Tribute back into the charts by collusion on social networks. The trigger for this was that the winner Mehrzad Marashi from Germany is looking for the superstar should not reach the top of the charts. In order for the old song to have been approved for the charts, the Sony label would have had to re-register it. However, since Sony is also responsible for the publication of the DSDS winners, the company decided against it. Instead, Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin was used for this campaign .
