Trimagnesium dicitrate is a chemical compound from the group of magnesium citrates.

properties

Trimagnesium dicitrate is a white to off-white solid that is sparingly soluble in water. In addition to the nonahydrate, the pharmacopoeia also describes magnesium citrate dodecahydrate, a salt with a variable water of crystallization content Mg 3 (C 6 H 5 O 7 ) 2 · n H 2 O, (n≈12) for which no CAS No. was assigned. There are three magnesium ions bound to two citric acid molecules. In this ratio of 3: 2, the elemental magnesium content is around 16%.

use

Trimagnesium dicitrate is used as a laxative or dietary supplement.
