The Evangelical Trinity Church is an originally early Gothic hall church that has been rebuilt several times in the district of Zscheila von Meißen in the district of the same name in Saxony . It belongs to the parish of St. Trinitatis Zscheila in the Evangelical Lutheran Church District Meißen-Großenhain of the Evangelical Lutheran Regional Church of Saxony .

history

The former collegiate church originally had the patronage of St. George, but was consecrated to the Holy Trinity after the renovation in 1670 and has been named Trinity Church since Zscheila was incorporated into the city of Meißen. The hall church located on a hill with two choir bays from the middle of the 13th century was provided around 1500 with the present ship and the west tower, which is probably Romanesque in its core. The building was rebuilt in the years 1667–1669; During this time, the hall was newly vaulted, the galleries built, prayer rooms and the crypt on the south side were built, the tower was given a new top and a new altar and a new pulpit were erected. In 1715, the Schilling crypt was built in with the Proschwitz gallery and around 1830 the porch on the tower was built. In the years 1868 and 1902, the exterior plaster was renewed with strips and blocks, and the interior was restored and the pulpit and altar were given a new version. In the years 1935-1939 the interior was restored, with the wall painting uncovered and the pulpit moved.

In the years 1998-2001 the exterior plaster of the church was renewed and the tower and the crown were repaired. The bell system was renewed in 2003 and the previous bells from Aue were added. The interior was renovated in 2011/2012, with the floor, heating, electrical system and interior decoration being renewed or restored.

architecture

The building is a plastered quarry stone building with a straight closed choir and massive buttresses at the corners, which is finished with a gable roof. In the east wall there is a group of three lancet windows , basket-arched windows in the chancel and pointed arched windows in the hall. A round arch portal on the west side is made of sandstone. The sacristy is built on the north side of the choir, and on the south side there is an extension with a volute gable. The stocky proportioned west tower is finished with a baroque roof turret.

The three-bay interior is closed off by groin vaults, the western tower bay is drawn in. The two-bay choir is closed with a groin vault, which rests on bulbous capitals without service. A two-storey gallery extends around the ship on three sides. In the western choir bay, there are bow-like prayer rooms on both sides . The southern prospect rests on strong volute consoles , the windows are flanked by Ionic pillars. The sacristy is closed with a groin vault, the treasury above it with a late Gothic groin vault. The early Gothic sacristy door is pointed arched, with strong profiles and partly Gothic fittings. In the eastern choir bay you can see a valuable vault painting from around 1300 with the Maiestas Domini , the evangelist symbols and stars, on the walls are depicted angels of judgment, the resurrected and the procession of the blessed and damned. The sacrament niche from the third quarter of the 14th century is provided with a painted frame.

Furnishing

The soaring altar structure, presumably by Valentin Otte from around 1655, is richly decorated with columns and moving figures. It contains four pictures one above the other and shows carved figures of the four evangelists on consoles on both sides. In the predella the Lord's Supper is shown, on the main floor Moses with the brazen serpent and a plastic crucifixion group in front of it. The sacrifice of Isaac is depicted on the upper floor , in front of which there are three women at the grave of Christ as a plastic group, framed by columns with an obelisk crown and a keel arch. In the oval crown you can see the resurrection with the figurative Lamb of God with the victory flag above it.

The wooden pulpit is designed with an octagonal basket on a column and probably dates from 1667. It is equipped with a wide, splendid sound cover with rolling and tailing mechanism and shows a forged sun as a crown. The font from 1860 has a pewter basin with the year 1864. The organ, which has been rebuilt several times, is a work by Eule Orgelbau from 1928 with 35 stops on two manuals and pedal .
