Tristram Hunt (born May 31, 1974 in Cambridge ) is a British historian , museum director and ex-politician ( Labor Party ).

Life

Tristram Hunt is a son of the meteorologist Julian Hunt . He attended University College School in London . He studied history at Trinity College, Cambridge , at the University of Chicago and was an Associate Fellow at King's College (Cambridge) . In 2000 he received his PhD from Cambridge. In Cambridge he was a member of the Footlights student theater .

As a historian, he presented historical subjects in productions for the BBC , both on television and on the radio.

Hunt has been a member of the Labor Party since his youth . He has accompanied various candidates in their election campaigns since 1997 and applied unsuccessfully for a candidacy in 2007 and 2009. He won the Stoke-on-Trent constituency seat in 2010 and was re-elected in 2015. Hunt became Shadow Secretary of State for Education in 2013 . In 2015 he was one of the candidates for the successor to party leader Ed Miliband , instead of him Jeremy Corbyn became opposition leader, whose policies he subsequently heavily criticized.

As an author, he joined a. with a highly acclaimed biography about Friedrich Engels , which he published in 2009.

Hunt was appointed director of the Victoria and Albert Museum in 2017 , so he stepped down from parliament. He officially took office on February 20, 2017.
