The Trogfurt Bridge , also known as the (Große) Trogfurt (h) er Bridge , was a historical monument near Königshütte in what is now the Harz district in Saxony-Anhalt . It was built as a stone bridge in 1739/40, blown up in 1945 and replaced by a modern bridge in the same year. The bridge became superfluous after the Königshütte dam ( Königshütte transfer dam ) was completed in 1956.

history

The name derives from the Great trough ford from the turn of the trough / Tockweg is derived, which in the context of a ford used to be a crossing of the Saale -Zuflusses Bode was formed and 919 first mentioned.

The Trogfurt Bridge , built from quarry stones over the Bode in 1739/40 , was built at a ford on Königsstieg, one of the oldest German military and trade routes that linked Italy with Scandinavia . The bridge was also used to transport wood. The bridge stones presumably came from the demolished watch tower of the former Susenburg , which stood on a mountain spur about 800 m northeast of the bridge and probably served as a bridge protection.

Almost a month before the end of World War II , the bridge was blown up by the SS on April 14, 1945 . In the same year a modern bridge made of reinforced concrete and wood was built . This became superfluous after the construction of the Königshütte dam was completed on August 24, 1956, the dam wall of which stands a few meters to the east and thus below the old, but now water-flooded bridge location. The crown of the dam wall, which is 18.2 m high ( 424.9  m above sea  level ) , now serves as the floor crossing .

hike

The former Trogfurter bridge is included as No. 42 in the system of stamping points of the Harz hiking pin; the stamping point is at the southern end of the dam ( ) of the Königshütte dam . From there you can hike on an approximately 6 km long circular path around the reservoir and, among other things, to the nearby Lange plateau , to the nearby Königsburg castle ruins and to the nearby Susenburg castle stables .
