Tru Young Television (short Tru TV, own letters [tru:] young television ) was an evangelical German-language television station with a 24-hour program, which is based in Hamburg had and, like his master transmitter Bibel TV mainly through donations funded . The aim was to bring the Bible closer to young viewers . The name and the logo of the new transmitter correspond to the phonetic transcription of the English word "true" (true, genuine).

history

As before Bibel TV, the subsidiary project owed its start of broadcasting to a one-off start-up financing of 4.5 million euros, which comes from an unspecified donation. The former managing director Bernd Merz referred to the age group of 15 to 25 year olds, who made up around 37 percent of the regular Bible TV viewers. In May 2007 the Medienanstalt Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein Bibel TV granted the license for the station. It could be received digitally via the Astra 1g satellite and it was also planned to feed it via digital cable. The parent company, Bibel TV, discontinued Tru Young Television's satellite transmission at the end of June 2009 for cost reasons. From now on the program can only be received via internet stream.

In mid-December 2010, the station's team said goodbye to its viewers and referred to the parent station, Bibel TV. At that time, the program only consisted of repetitions and the homepage was hardly maintained or updated. After that, broadcasting was discontinued without notice of a specific date. The homepage www.trutv.de is now a forwarding to the website of Bibel TV.

Program content

In addition to special musical programs, there were documentaries, films, comedy formats and recordings of Christian youth events in the six-hour program, which was broadcast around the clock as part of a playout automation system. The music program “Jericho Hammerbrook” (then with the addition “2.0”) switched from Bibel TV to the new channel. "Dialogue with youth and interaction" was named as the program objective. The programming advisory board working for Bibel TV also ensured that Tru Young Television's programming was in keeping with the company's statutory purposes. The advisory board can consist of up to seven members who work on a voluntary basis and are elected by the shareholders' meeting for a period of four years.

The only reminder of the name of the former youth broadcaster is the name of the "Tru Music" program on Bibel TV. Only music clips are broadcast under this title, the selection of which has now been adapted to an audience of all ages.

reception

Tru Young Television was available on the broadcaster's website via an Internet stream. Some programs were also broadcast on Bible TV. In addition, selected programs and articles were available in the company's own online media library.

Up until the end of June 2009, the station could also be received digitally via the Astra 1G satellite with a frequency of 12.552 GHz in vertical polarization . In its newsletter, Bibel TV had already announced on May 29, 2009 that it would broadcast the station "only a few more months" via satellite. The costs for the transmission cannot be refinanced through advertising and donations. Distribution via Zattoo has also been discontinued.

financing

Until the one-off start-up funding was used up, the broadcaster would have had to secure funding from current donations from viewers. The originally planned partial financing from advertising income, however, turned out to be difficult. The consequence of this was the abandonment of satellite transmission. (For comparison: three years after it started broadcasting, Bibel TV was financed 70 percent from donations and 30 percent from advertising income.) The production team was also downsized, and there were layoffs. Most recently, co-managing director Bernd Merz also left. Other options had already been tested for the 2009 Kirchentag. They wanted to continue teaching the gospel to young people. “ That is why the [tru:] broadcasts will continue to reach their viewers via the Internet and… via Bible TV. "

executive Director

Bernd Merz , previously broadcasting officer of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD), was appointed additional managing director of Bibel TV for two years on October 1st, 2007. He ran the station alongside Henning Röhl as managing director with equal rights and was responsible, among other things, for setting up Tru Young Television. In the meantime, Merz has left the station. There is no official information about whether this is related to the discontinuation of the satellite frequency and the downsizing of the program team. His work at Bibel TV and Tru was limited to two years.

After the departure of Merz, Henning Röhl continued the internet station until the end of broadcasting.
