Bernd Merz

Bernd Merz (born June 8, 1956 in Bremerhaven ) is a German pastor and media officer.

Life

After graduating from high school, he studied theology and was ordained as a pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hanover after his vicariate . He first worked as a parish pastor in Handorf , church district Winsen (Luhe) . From 1986 he was also the presenter of the television service "Telekirche im III." On NDR television .

From autumn 1989 to the beginning of 1996 he worked as a speaker and editor in the Evangelical Radio Department of the North German Churches in Hamburg. In March 1996, Bernd Merz became the Evangelical TV Representative of the North German Churches and Head of the Hamburg Office. From September 1996 to March 2001 he was Evangelical Broadcasting Officer at NDR (radio and television officer in personal union) and head of the Evangelical Broadcasting Department at four locations (Zentralredaktion Hamburg with editorial offices in Hanover, Kiel and Schwerin).

From April 2001 to September 2007 he was broadcasting officer of the EKD Council and co-initiator of the awarding of the German Children's Prize . In addition, he was broadcasting officer of the Association of Evangelical Free Churches . His successor is Markus Bräuer.

On October 1, 2007, Merz was appointed managing director of the non-profit television station Bibel TV for two years , after he had previously been chairman of the program advisory board of Bibel TV. He was released from his previous function as broadcasting officer. One of his duties at Bibel TV was building up the youth channel Tru Young Television . Then Merz left the station. But he can still be seen in individual programs, u. a. in the series “Witnesses” and “Hopeful”.

Since the beginning of 2010, Merz has been the managing director of Matthias-Film, a company owned by the Evangelical Church that makes cinema and television films available for teaching in schools and parishes.

At the beginning of 2011 he was also appointed managing director of Radio Paradiso , the only Christian broadcaster in Berlin.

He is chairman of the jury for children's programs for the Robert Geisendörfer Prize.
