Trude Schullerus

Gertrud "Trude" Schullerus (born May 3, 1889 in Agnetheln , Austria-Hungary , † January 24, 1981 in Sibiu ) was a Romanian painter from the German-speaking minority of the Transylvanian Saxons .

Life

Trude Schullerus was born as the daughter of the pastor and theologian Adolf Schullerus (1864–1928). The painter Fritz Schullerus (1866–1898) was her uncle.

She began her apprenticeship as a painter in Sibiu and studied privately from 1904 in Munich with Max Feldbauer , Moritz Heymann and Julius Exter . In 1922 she showed her works at a solo exhibition in Sibiu.

From 1924 to 1925 she studied at the State Academy for Graphic Arts and Book Industry in Leipzig . After graduating, she went on a study trip through Italy and the German Empire . After that she stayed in Sibiu as a freelance painter all her life. The influence of Paul Cézanne and Paul Gauguin is noticeable in their works .

From 1930 to 1948 she headed the Sebastian Hann Association for domestic artistic endeavors. In 1932 she illustrated Transylvanian folk songs .
