Fritz Schullerus
Fritz Schullerus (born July 22, 1866 in Fogarasch , † December 22, 1898 in Groß-Schenk ) was a Transylvanian-Saxon painter.
Life
Schullerus grew up in a rectory . He was the son of the Protestant pastor Gustav Adolf Schullerus (1838–1900). His older brother was the pastor and linguist Adolf Schullerus (1864–1928), his niece was the painter Trude Schullerus (1889–1981).
Schullerus attended the Protestant grammar school in Sibiu until 1885 , where he received his first painting lessons from Carl Dörschlag . He then began to study architecture at the Vienna University of Technology in 1885 , but soon abandoned the course and began his training (until 1889) at the drawing teacher school in Budapest with Bertalan Székely and as a private student with Gyula Benczúr a . a.
His painting was influenced by the works of Arnold Böcklin and Franz von Lenbach .
Schullerus studied since October 21, 1889 at the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich , first in the nature class with Gabriel von Hackl , then in 1895 with Carl von Marr , Ludwig von Löfftz and Otto Seitz . While still a student, he worked as a freelance artist in Munich.
He taught as a drawing teacher in Bistritz from 1892 to 1894 . From 1895 he lived in Groß-Schenk in his parents' house. There he devoted himself to painting. He created portraits, genre pictures and history pictures from the history of the Transylvanian Saxons. In the last two years of his life he painted a number of atmospheric landscape pictures. He died of tuberculosis at the age of 32.
