Arndt-Dieter Thormeyer

Arndt-Dieter Thormeyer (born August 28, 1920 in Zilly ; † 2013 ) was a German farmer and officer with a doctorate , most recently a brigadier general in the Bundeswehr .

Thormeyer came from the province of Saxony . He attended schools in East Pomerania and Hamburg , where he passed his Abitur . In 1939 he joined the Wehrmacht . Most recently he held the rank of captain . In 1988 he published the memoirs Leutnant des Heeres bei Hitler. September 1941 - April 1943 .

After the Second World War he was an agricultural student and youth officer in the German Red Cross . This was followed by a degree in agriculture at the University of Göttingen , which he graduated with a degree in agriculture . Then he was a scientific advisor for crop protection in the chemical industry .

In 1956 he joined the German Armed Forces , where he was initially an ensign trainer. From 1958 to 1959 he completed the 2nd general staff course (H) at the command and control academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg. This was followed by posts in the general staff and as a battalion commander. 1970/71 he was commander of Jägerbrigade 4 in Göttingen, from 1971 to 1974 of the Army Officer School III in Munich. From 1974 to 1980 he was deputy head of the staff of the Schleswig-Holstein Territorial Command / German authorized representative in the AFNORTH area in Kiel.

In 1975 he was at the Department of Agriculture and Horticulture of the Technical University of Munich with a thesis on land use for security policy needs in the Federal Republic of Germany and its impact on the environment development, illustrated with examples from the state of Bavaria for Dr. agr. PhD.

He was married to a noble von Xylander and had three children.
