Wilhelm Hess (General)

Wilhelm Heß (born October 22, 1907 in Bamberg , † January 18, 1997 in Munich ) was a German officer, most recently major general in the Bundeswehr .

Life

Promotions

In 1926, Hess began training as a police officer with the Bavarian State Police in Munich; he attended the Bavarian Police Officer School in Munich. From 1928 to 1932, the police lieutenant was platoon leader and deputy head of the hundred . From 1932 to 1934 he was a training officer at the state police preschool in Bamberg. After that he was a platoon leader, leader of a training group and adjutant.

In 1935 he joined the Wehrmacht . There he became a battalion adjutant in the Mountain Infantry Regiment 100 of the 1st Mountain Division in Traunstein and Brannenburg. From 1937 to 1939 he completed the general staff course at the Berlin War Academy . In 1939 he was assigned to the General Staff. In 1939/40 he was Second General Staff Officer (Ib) of the 2nd Mountain Division . In 1940 he was transferred to the General Staff. From 1940 to 1942 he was quartermaster in the Mountain Army Corps Norway. From 1942 to 1944 he was senior quartermaster in the Lapland Army High Command (later Mountain Army High Command 20). In 1944 he was transferred to the Führerreserve . In 1944 he was First General Staff Officer (Ia) of the 543rd and 291st Infantry Divisions . After that, he was reassigned to the Führer Reserve. In 1944/45 he was chief quartermaster in the mountain army command in Norway or 20 and chief quartermaster in Scandinavia. From 1945 to 1948 he was a British prisoner of war .

In 1949 he was accepted into the Bavarian State Police. From 1950 to 1952 he was an advisor to the president there. 1952/53 he was a police advisor and deputy head of department in Eichstätt. In 1953 he became a training officer with the Bavarian riot police in Munich.

In 1956 he switched to the German Armed Forces , where he became head of the logistics division and subdivision in the army command staff . From 1958 to 1962 he was in command of Army Officer School III in Munich. From 1962 to 1968 he was Commander in Defense Area VI in Munich. In 1968 he retired from service.

Hess was married.
