history
After the end of the Second World War and the beginning of the occupation in 1945, the police facilities in Bavaria were initially closed. The US Army took over government. After the security situation spiraled out of control, the US military government was forced to set up a new police force. On June 29, 1945 it was ordered that the Bavarian police should be reorganized according to democratic principles and decentralized. Michael Freiherr von Godin was appointed President of the Bavarian Rural Police. The Bavarian riot police was set up on May 31, 1951, the first “selection courses” began in autumn 1950. On January 5, 1951, the BStMI decided to found the state office for the Bavarian riot police (Königinstr. 17); on June 11, 1951, this position began work. In May 1951, platoon and group leaders were trained in Rothenburg ob der Tauber . On August 3, 1951, the first civil servants were trained in Rebdorf (today Eichstätt ). Josef Remold became the first president . In addition to the state police (from 1972: state police), the Bavarian border police (GrePo), the state identification office (today the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office ) and a state police school were established . The Bavarian Border Police existed until 1998 and was re-established in 2018.
