The Eiserbachtal nature reserve with tributaries is located in the municipality of Simmerath , southwest of Rurberg and above the Rurtalsperre .

description

The Eiserbach flows through a deeply carved Kerb- and Kerbsohlental up to its confluence with the Rursee . The valley slopes are forested, the grassland in the valley floor is fallow. The source areas of primary and secondary streams are in grazed grassland, with old hedgerows of Book and sloes . Further down the stream are pools and small cascades in the stream bed. In the abandoned grasslands of the middle stream section are butterbur and Mädesüßflure , also eagle ferns and Staußgrasrasen has settled here. The rocky southern slope is covered with mosses and lichens , on the slate rock ridges and knolls there is an extensive, acidic sessile oak forest with a closed, species-poor herb layer . At the foot of the northern slope you will find narrow remains of old beech forest with a demanding herb layer.

Protection purpose

These types of biotopes can be found in this area: springs, wet and humid grassland, near-natural unobstructed stream sections, rocks on the surface and alluvial forests .
