Trudernish is a small settlement on the Scottish Hebridean island of Islay . It is located about twelve kilometers northeast of the Port Ellen ferry terminal and 600 m west of Cape Trudernish Point in the southeast of the island. Although Trudernish is located in a sparsely populated part of the island, it can be reached via the road that runs along the south coast from Port Ellen via Lagavulin to Ardtalla . Ardmore itself consists of only a few houses. In 1861, eleven people were still living there.
Historical finds
At Trudernish you can find the ruins of the chapel Cill Chuibain , which could have been dedicated to Saint Kevan. Possibly this is the oldest church building on the island. The 1.5 m thick masonry enclosed a 3 × 6 m interior. Below the chapel there is a healing well, where offerings have been made up to the present day. To the east near Claggain Bay and Trudernish Point is a Standing Stone . This is two meters high with a footprint of 70 × 30 cm. There are reports of another standing stone and a cairn near Trudernish, but these are dubious.
