Trzy Świnki (German Saust A , Czech Svinské kameny ) is the Polish name of a rock formation of granite in the western part of the Silesian ridge of the Giant Mountains in Poland and the Czech Republic .

location

The "Drei Schweinchen", as the German translation from Polish, lies to the left and right of the Polish-Czech border at an altitude of 1290 m on the southern slope of the frost carrier ( Szrenica in Polish , Jínonoš in Czech - 1362 m) near the "Nassen Sattels" ( Mokra Przelecz - 1288 m) above the Wosseckerbaude ( Vosecká bouda ), a little more than 4 km from Szklarska Poręba ( Schreiberhau ).

Emergence

The natural monument consists of three closely spaced, strongly jagged rock outcrops , which are surrounded by mountain pines . The present shape is due to a complex and lengthy process of erosion . The weathering of wool sacks, which is typical of the Giant Mountains, is decisive for the strange shapes of the rocks . Repeated freezing and thawing of the water between the cracks in the rock resulted in ever-widening fissures in the rock , until rock broke off. The alternating freezing and thawing also affected the layers of soil above the permafrost and led to a phenomenon known as “soil flow” , which was responsible for the removal of the crushed rock material down the slope. This explains why the rocks - in layman's terms - remained isolated. According to geomorphological aspects, the rock formation is assigned to the Tor type (it is named after the Tors, rock towers near Dartmoor / England ).

Names and legends

The bizarre shapes also stimulated the imagination; Names and legends are closely related. A story tells of how the rocks were formed: Rübezahl (left, in a picture after Martin Helwig ) once served as a swineherd for a farmer. When he asked for his wages, the farmer accused him of missing three pigs. But he had hidden the piglets himself in order to have an excuse and to cheat Rübezahl for his wages. But the mountain spirit had seen through the clever little peasant and dragged the liar to the place where he was hiding the animals. Then he bewitched the piggy mumps , so that they puffed up enormously until they burst at the end. Finally, he turned her to stone.

Tourism and nature protection

The rock group is located in the area of two national parks. In Poland in the Karkonoski Park Narodowy (KPN) and in the Czech Republic in the Krkonošský národní park (KRNAP). In addition to extensive species protection, this also means that paved paths must not be left. This of course also applies to the red marked path of Polish-Czech friendship (Kammweg), which leads along the border past here.

There are similar tourist attractions in the vicinity: At the Sauststeine a green marked path leads to the horse headstones ( Końskie Łby ) and further, around the summit of the frost bearer. And the quark stones ( Twarożnik ) are only 400 meters to the southeast, also on the ridge path .
