Tschernjatyn ( Ukrainian Чернятин ; Russian Чернятин Tschernjatin , Polish Czerniatyn ) is a village in the west of the Ukrainian Vinnytsia Oblast with about 1,600 inhabitants (2001).
Founded in the 17th century in the historic Podolia region , the village was named after the first settler of the village, a Cossack named Chernyak ( Черняк ). Later, Old Believers also settled here. From the end of the 18th century, the village belonged to the Polish magnate family Witosławski, who, probably around 1820, built a castle in a representative park in the village.
Cherniatyn has been an administrative part of the Severynivka rural community ( Северинівська громада ) in the west of Shmerynka Raion since 2016 .
Geographical location
The village is situated at an altitude of 282 m on the shore of Riw ( Рів ), a 104 km long right tributary of the Southern Bug , one kilometer west of the community center Seweryniwka , 15 km west from Rajonzentrum Zhmerynka and 50 km southwest of the Oblastzentrum Vinnytsia .
Territorial road T-02-41 runs through the village .
