The RKF leads them in FCI group 5 , the breed is not recognized by the FCI. At Russian national shows , the CAC, the eligibility for the National Beauty Champion, is awarded for the breed, and work tests are carried out.

The breed is used by the Chukchi as a draft dog , sled dog and working dog .

Origin and history

Since 1999 he has been a breed of sled dog recognized as a breeding group in the RKF. The breed founded the breeding of the Siberian Husky with other dogs of the Siberian peoples - Jukagiren dog ( Yakutian Laika ) and Kamchatka dog - in 1910 . In all of Siberia, all primitive dogs are descendants of the first dogs that immigrants from the south brought to these regions. Jesdowaja Laika means "Transport Laika" or "Laika who pulls a sledge". Ездовая собака (Ezdovaja Sobaka) means sled dog. The form Чукотская Ездовая is a string of adjectives and is the short form of Чукотская ездовая собака (Chukchi sled dog).

This breed is developed from specimens of the best indigenous sled dogs of the Chukchi and other peoples of Northeast Siberia. A draft of the new breed standard is already being formulated. Descriptions of the native sled dogs of the Chukchi Peninsula (also called Chukotka Peninsula ) generally reflect the appearance of the sled dog common in the tundra in the east and other areas of the Taimyr Peninsula . Naughty eyes are not appreciated by the kajoors , the mushers of Chukotka, and hunters. The latter believe that blue-eyed animals have less stamina and do inferior work.

description

The Tschukotka-Schlitten-Laika is a fairly strong dog of medium size with a well-proportioned body structure, well-formed bones and muscles.

Males are approximately 52 to 58 cm shoulder height and bitches are 49 to 55 cm shoulder height. Measured at the sacrum (sacrum), the height is the same or approx. 2 cm lower. The chest circumference measures at least 76 cm for males and at least 71 cm for bitches. The belly is slightly drawn in, the croup is a little raised. The dogs often resemble the Canadian Eskimo dog more than the Samoyed or the Siberian husky . The overall appearance, however, is rather inconsistent, with a multitude of different strokes . The most common colors are creamy white, red of various shades, wolf gray, brown, piebald white with any color, and black. The coat consists of a thick protective undercoat with a medium-length, straight outer coat . The head is triangular, massive with a broad skull. The muzzle and top of the skull are the same length. The muzzle line and the skull line are parallel, the animal has a scissor bite . The lips are close-fitting, the nose surface is black or brown, depending on the hair color. The eyes are almond-shaped and set at an angle. The eye color is yellow or brown or black, less often blue. The ears are small and erect with rounded tips, sloping slightly forward. The tail is set low and does not reach the hock when stretched. It is saber-shaped or sickle-shaped. The hair is long. Dogs from Northeast Siberia do not bark much, but they can howl very noisily.

Essence

Chukotka sled dogs are generally friendly and loyal to people. They make a sound when another team or vehicle approaches them or their camp. The Chukotka dogs compete with each other for resources. A sled team can only work after a ranking has been established among the animals.

use

The Chukotka Sled Laika is in the process of establishing itself as a sled dog breed. However, selected and suitable dogs are also used to hunt bears and wild boars. As a family dog, the Chukotka dog is a good guardian.
